Requirements

Requirements and Compatibility

Server, Java, dependency, and compatibility requirements before installing MxF Factions.

Docs v1.0.0-devProduct 1.0.0-devUpdated Jul 21, 2026

Server target

MxF Factions is built for Spigot and Paper-based servers. Spigot 1.8.8 is the primary legacy target, while newer Paper builds require matching dependency versions and compatibility checks.

Java

The plugin JAR targets Java 8 bytecode.

Use Java 8 for 1.8.8 and 1.12.2 networks unless your server stack requires otherwise.

Use the Java version required by your modern Paper build when running newer Minecraft versions.

If startup reports UnsupportedClassVersionError, the server Java runtime is not compatible with the JAR or dependency set.

Required integrations

Vault is required for money balances, faction banks, shops, paid upgrades, and economy rewards.

A Vault-compatible economy provider must be installed before money features are enabled.

A Bukkit-compatible permission plugin is supported. LuckPerms is the recommended option.

Optional integrations

PlaceholderAPI for scoreboards, menus, messages, and external display variables.

WorldEdit for selecting regions during outpost, KOTH, and raid outpost setup.

WorldGuard for region lookups when your server already manages protected regions that way.

Before opening to players

Confirm /f compatibility detects the expected server family.

Confirm /f config validate reports no blocking YAML issues.

Verify Vault economy behavior with faction money commands.

Validate claims, homes, warps, data persistence, menus, and season settings on a staged copy of your server.
